Reported effectiveness
The average perceived effectiveness of the treatment amongst the patient views found for this page.

To calculate the reported effectiveness for a patient view, the model first analyses whether it can be ascertained that the person writing the review has had direct experience of the treatment for themselves or a loved one. If so, it then uses sentiment analysis to rate their view from 1-5 on how effective this treatment was for them, with 1 being the least effective, and 5 the most effective.

Speech therapy was a game changer for us in the early years too. Professionals didn’t think my child would speak but we still went all in to try, now she speaks without any aac support and almost everyone can understand her.

Glad you had a positive experience and that your therapist supported you so well

Speech Therapy gave my child more quality of life that I thought was ever possible.

Our SLP was amazing. She started us so very gently on the disability pathway and encouraged me the mother to seek further help. We would not be. We would not be where we are now without her knowledge of early intervention, developmental milestone delays and advocacy.

It's ALOT, but there are a few well known trusted clinics now so that helped.

What we have seen so far

• more visually aware: my daughter now looks at my food I'm eating and wants to try it.

• more body awareness: I will touch her arm that I want her to reach with and she will use that arm

• eating: it use to take her 30mins to finish her meal, it now takes her 15-20mins

• speech: my daughter said more and yeah for the first time, she can now sign more and go, and she can almost do thank you.

• cognitively: there are gains, she seems to be understanding commands and reasoning behind why we are doing x,y,z better

Gross motor- no gains here, we were seeing strength improvements initially however she became unwell for 8 days with vomiting and we saw a big regression.

Yup. Speech therapy has been really helpful. And seeing a larynx specialist that deals with diseases/ dysfunction of the throat. I’m 42 and singing again! 🎶 (I used to professionally, in my 20s. )

As a child, I also had to attend speech therapy because I had trouble pronouncing certain letters. Even now, at 28, my partner still lovingly tells me that I mumble a lot.

I wish I’d have had speech therapy as I feel it has the biggest impact on me physiologically it’s really depressing to here people say they can’t understand me

It really helped my son's processing speed and speech clarity. My son also seemed to have cognitive gains as well. My son has always reacted to sounds. My son would startle a lot as a baby. My son always likes toys that make sound, and my son is always sensory seeking, wanting to make really loud noises. We did 3 intensives of 2 weeks with a 4 week gap each time.

It gave my son the confidence to trust in his voice. Learning about how to use his mouth. To the point where the therapist said if would be unethical to treat him further. His speech and ability to communicate has really changed the way he “moves”.

We've been doing speech therapy since my child was 3 weeks old, we've just turned one and made amazing progress, we moved away from tube feed and now orally fed bottles and food, making sounds and communicating using a switch device. Highly recommend finding a great "Speechy" and welcoming them on your journey
