Reported effectiveness
The average perceived effectiveness of the treatment amongst the patient views found for this page.

To calculate the reported effectiveness for a patient view, the model first analyses whether it can be ascertained that the person writing the review has had direct experience of the treatment for themselves or a loved one. If so, it then uses sentiment analysis to rate their view from 1-5 on how effective this treatment was for them, with 1 being the least effective, and 5 the most effective.

I have been following a Mediterranean diet for many years, certainly before my diagnosis. There are many healthy choices so it’s an easy diet to maintain. More recently however, I have cut out alcohol. Regardless, I think this diet contributes to one’s overall health.

I have long been a fan of the Mediterranean eating regimen. My MDS recommended it to me several years ago and I immediately started practicing its nutritional guidelines. It helped me feel better and the constipation issue improved somewhat. I lost weight and energy levels improved. When we veer off course like when on vacation, my partner and I both notice the difference in the way we feel and my PD symptoms are more challenging. I firmly believe nutrition has to be part of the PD treatment conversation!

I’m not on a strict Mediterranean diet, but I do try to follow and eat many of the foods from it. I tried to eat as much scratch food – fresh homemade, or a few ingredients on the label as possible. And it makes a huge difference. For a while I was doing, Hello Fresh and found symptoms to be the best they’ve ever been without making any other changes other than the diet.

I try to eat as healthy as possible ( did it before PD so was no problem ) i live in Spain so i guess you can call it healthy Mediterranean diet. And yes i think a healthy diet has an impact on symptoms & meds. I notice when sometimes i take a break and eat whatever i miss :).

I’m being sarcastic. I know why doctors recommend the Mediterranean diet: it works for a lot of people

Because they attribute the longevity of many Mediterranean people to be at least in part due to their diet; Which it likely is. They eat fresh locally grown vegetables and grains, without the chemical fertilizers and toxic herbicides and pesticides. Even their protein sources are less contaminated. Most doctors have less than 20 hours of nutrition education.

  • the Mediterranean diet is also more reasonable modification for most Americans. There are Japanese cultures with similar longevity, but the dietary change would be too drastic.

It’s too early to know if this is helping or not, but this is what I prepare for my partner (29) who was recently diagnosed. If anything, we feel super healthy!

• Magnesium L-Threonate • COQ10 • Turmeric “shot” for inflammation • Brazil nuts for selenium • Smoothie with spinach, blueberries, mango, brown rice protein powder or collagen peptides OR • Smoothie with pine nuts, blueberries, dates, brown rice protein powder or collagen peptides, honey, cinnamon, & spirulina

I’m trying out different smoothie recipes, so far these ones taste good :) All the meals I prepare are homemade and organic when possible. We significantly cleaned up our diets when he was diagnosed last winter. I would say we loosely follow the Mediterranean diet
